I too would be interested in what Dabomage recommends. Anyway I did some research to see what was out there and found the following:
It probable depends on the class but as a warrior I think I would prefer to have the the Abysmal armor from Gates of Discord; also known as Qvic armor, Muramite armor or "goat" armor. It's equipable at level 65 and has better Ac than even the elegant defiant armor(recommended level of 80).

All of the pieces besides the breastplate and the greaves were 1 groupable at level 65 on the Vulak'Aerr server so they should be cake to get on this server. If you can find a friend that's higher level to help you out you could probably even attempt to do Txevu instances for the chest and legs.
At level 75 there is the buried Sea armor which requires flags for killing certain raid mobs to unlock the pieces; max level was 75 during this expansion so it shouldn't be that hard to get this stuff unlocked with a little help. Once unlocked you can buy the armor from in Katta Castrum for Phosphenes(can be purchased from loyalty vendor).
